Today’s post is dedicated to anyone who has lost a beloved pet, most especially my daughter, Caitlin, who called to tell me she had to make that terrible decision for one of her own today; to put a long-lived doggy down for the suffering that aging had brought with it’s years A beautiful shepherd, so loving and loyal. My heart breaks for her and for all who must bear the weight of such a tough decision. A decision made for the best well-being of the animal, but one that hurts our hearts so very much.

“So, Tee-Rosie, know that someday, you will see ‘Midori’ again, honey. God would never bless us with the love and compassion and loyalty we receive from our pets if it weren’t true…that someday we might once again be able to see them and love them again. I really believe this with all my heart.

Love, Mommy”

Rainbow Bridge
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together….

  1. I enjoy the idea of this rainbow bridge you speak of. When I lost my puppy (not a puppy) a few years ago, I cried nonstop for about 5 hours. Crying now just thinking about the little fucker. A border collie. Dogs are the best friends that some kids have. I hope it’s not too bad a time.

    • Awww, so sorry Rob. Thanks for your sweet thoughts for my daughter at this time. Our furry family members are no less special than regular people-members, really, are they? I can imagine you miss that ball of energy a border collie represents. Those are among my fave breeds. Tho my daughter is in her early 20s, she IS indeed a kid who loves her dogs…she loves everybody, actually. We are all kids when we are loved by a pet. Thanks so much again for your thoughts today.

  2. My thoughts are with your daughter, having lost 2 shepherds myself. I am certain we will all be united with our loved ones, be they 4 or 2 legged. Why else would we love them so much?

  3. I only hope rainbow bridge includes birds……..I’m so sorry for your daughter’s loss, especially at this time of the year when happiness should abound.
xxx Massive Hugs to you both xxx

    • Thanks David…Of course it includes birds…all manner of pets. Even ones with no wings or legs, yikes! Whatever pet brings love, companionship, loyalty, and compassion into an earthly soul’s day-to-day existence, to my mind, is a blessing.
Thank you for sharing your sympathy today. I shall be sure she knows of every kind word delivered here today and the thoughts of her loss.
