Special Feature: Le Danse Macabre

We found this beautiful rendition of the Dance Macabre on YouTube…and though it would seem a natural pick to show at Halloween, it’s entirely too beautiful to keep to ourselves until then.

In a nutshell, the story of this musical piece is basically: on the eve of Halloween, “Death” plays a violin, beckoning the dead to rise from their graves on that night to dance for him until the rooster crows at dawn, then before the sun rises they must go back down into the grave and remain until the next year’s Halloween eve.

We liked the synced skeletons, dancing in unison and the music was especially nice.We got a little sad toward the end, knowing the spirits so enjoyed themselves, being free to dance— only to face the dawn — knowing it was over so soon…time to go back down. Just as in real life, it’s a pity when the party’s over.

We hope you enjoy it as much as we did…the work that this video’s creator put into this piece really shows.

Dance on, Friends!

  3. I find it most spooky that I have literally just come through from watching TV. The programme I watched was Jonathan Creek which has Danse Macabre as it’s theme tune.I open your post and here it is again as it was running through my mind.
